Lunch Date with Kate!

Meet Kate! Kate Fugate is the Service Manager here at Sweet Auburn BBQ, and for good reason. This mama hen takes care of our service and bar staff without missing a beat. She inspires us all to focus on our guests while encouraging the homey, family environment we all enjoy.

Kate began her journey in the restaurant biz with culinary school, and worked in various local kitchens for years, including a stint at a German bakery. “I love baking, but it’s not what I’m best at,” Kate laughs. “I’m much better with cooking a great meal.” Kate made her way to the front of the house and found that she especially loved dealing with guests first hand, and heading up a great team. Joining the management staff of Sweet Auburn BBQ only 8 months after they opened, Kate was happy to be met with such a close-knit group in a neighborhood bar and restaurant. “Sweet Auburn is run by a family, and everyone who works here becomes a part of that. It shows in our service, and in our food. We all love what we do here.”

Kate’s been living in Atlanta for over ten years, and considers the Poncey-Highland area to be her favorite – “You won’t find a better clientele anywhere in the city” she adds. She lives in the area herself, along with her boyfriend James. When she’s not at home or on a shift at SAB, Kate and James like to get out of the city for a good hike, drink on patios in good Atlanta weather, or visit the Zoo and Fernbank. “We love to visit out-of-the-way thrift and antique shops also,” Kate says. In fact, Kate and James are evolving that last hobby into a collection of oddities and collectibles of the unusual sort. Soon you’ll be able to purchase from their unique catalog of goodies — watch for more details on that soon.

And the final question round with our wonderful Kate:

A: “Easy. Fried oyster po’boy with a good, thick mayo, and the bread pretty much soaking in Tabasco.”
